Gilbert Police Arrest Chandler Man
on AZ ROC’s Most Wanted Unlicensed List
PHOENIX, Ariz., (Dec. 17, 2019) – On Fri., Dec. 13, 2019, at approximately 3:45 PM, Brett Roberts, 54 of Chandler, was arrested by the Gilbert Police Department on 13 warrants and booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail.
Two of those warrants were issued by the Maricopa County Superior Court after he Failed to Appear at sentencing hearings scheduled for Feb. 7, 2019, and related to Arizona Registrar of Contractors (AZ ROC) investigations. The hearings come after Roberts pleaded guilty to two counts of Taking Identity of Another, a Class 4 Felony, on Sept. 25, 2019, in two separate court cases.
The charges stemmed from two separate AZ ROC investigations that found Roberts was using the names and license numbers of licensed contracting companies to represent himself as a licensed contractor and get work.
Roberts has never been a licensed contractor in the State of Arizona and is known to take money for projects and abandon the job.
Roberts is being held at the Fourth Avenue Jail on bonds and fees totaling over $30,000. He is scheduled to appear in the Maricopa County Superior Court at 8:30 AM on Dec. 18, 2019.
AZ ROC investigated 11 cases against Roberts, DBA Crosstown Brothers Heating & Air, Crosstown Heating and Cooling and Property Investments Inc since 2007 and all 11 cases were submitted for prosecution review.
AZ ROC frequently receives complaints where an unlicensed entity’s work begins as small projects and increases in price and complexity to a point where they are unable or unwilling to complete or correct the work. In these cases, the homeowner is often out of luck. AZ ROC reminds property owners to ask contractors of their license status and to check the license using the contractor search at www.roc.az.gov or giving the Agency a call at 1-877-692-9762.
