PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Rosie Ortiz and her husband, Frank, are in the middle of a remodel, but not by choice.
One day in January, the couple of 65 years came home to a mess where a drain had separated in their bathroom and flooded the house.
"The water was flowing all over the place," Rosie said. "I called my insurance... my insurance sent me some angels and they are angels."
While their USAA covers the damages, it doesn't cover improvements, like making the home elderly-friendly, which is the kind of assistance Frank, a Korean War veteran who's recovering from a stroke, could use.
Enter who Rosie calls angels, employees from Arizona Construction and Restoration.
"Frank, he's in the hospital... just the sweetest, strongest woman I know, so we're happy to be here," Cindy Drascic said
Going above and beyond ordinary repairs, ACR and others from around the Valley came together to redo almost the entire interior of their home, making the house livable for Rosie nd Frank, which is something their son Eddie says is unbelievable.
"It really shows that there are... always thought it was a story that happened to someone else, but not actually to us," he said.
Daughter-in-law Theresa says it will be life-changing.
"They needed it really badly," she said. "He can't get around too much and it was kinda hard for him to go in and out."
The group is working hard to get things ready. Rosie and Frank are waiting patiently to return home and are grateful for the kindness of strangers.
"Proud of them, I'm very proud of them, I'm happy God sent me some good angels," Rosie said.
