Tucson Unlicensed Entity Guilty
of Contracting Without A License
PHOENIX, Ariz., (Mon., June 3, 2019) –On Thurs., May 30, 2019, Arturo Juarez, 49 of Tucson pleaded guilty to Contracting Without a License, a Class 1 Misdemeanor in the Pima County Consolidated Justice Court.
The case stems from an AZ ROC investigation which found that Juarez, DBA C & C Cooling and Heating, was paid $9,600 to purchase and install a new air conditioning unit at a Marana home. The homeowner had previously used Juarez’s services to service his old air conditioner for years and believed he could trust him to complete the job. The job was completed, but the work was poor. Juarez became unresponsive, and that’s when the homeowner turned to the AZ ROC.
Juarez was fined $1,000 and restitution was capped at $15,609.
A restitution hearing is scheduled for July 12, 2019 at 3:00 PM in the Pima County Consolidated Justice Court.
AZ ROC previously investigated five other complaints against Juarez and all five were submitted for prosecution.
The AZ ROC frequently receives complaints where an unlicensed entity’s work begins as small projects and increases in price and complexity to a point where they are unable or unwilling to complete or correct the work and the homeowner is out of luck. The AZ ROC reminds property owners to ask contractors of their license status and to check the license using the contractor search at www.roc.az.gov or giving the Agency a call at 1-877-692-9762.
